1. The successful completion of three graduate courses plus a required Pro-Seminar from the approved list of courses (list attached) will qualify a student for a Certificate in International Social Development. Only one of the courses can be taken from a student's own school or department.

Certificate students must complete all three courses within one of the following theme areas:

Civil Society, Democratization and Development

Community Development and
Urbanization
Environment and Development
Human Rights
Immigration and Refugees
Peace and development
Society and Economy

3. The Certificate Program is open ONLY to matriculated CUA graduate students.

4. To enter the certificate program, a student will be required to consult with the appointed Advisor in his/her school to plan his/her course of study.   Two of the three courses must be taken outside the student’s department or school.

5. The Pro-Seminar, a course that is being developed, will be team-taught be the affiliate faculty of the Center. This course will be required of all students and is in addition to the other three courses.

6. The Co-Directors (Frederick L. Ahearn, NCSSS and Karla Simon, Law) of the Center for International Social Development will handle administrative details for the program, and the granting of certificates.   Staff will be hired to handle these obligations as soon as funding is available.
 

7. A Field Practicum is encouraged and may replace one of the three course requirements. Their CISD advisor must approve the field placement.
